SKETCH-BOOK EXTRACT 27. (soft pastel drawing of pebbles shimmering).

Image
Simple sketch of shimmering pebbles with colour pastels. Image: simple sketch of shimmering pebbles. When using soft, coloured pastels, it allows for rich, vibrant, colour application, ability for easy blending and layering which enables the creation of subtle transitions and delicate details.  The medium is versatile and forgiving, allowing for corrections and adjustments with the fingers and wrist when using it. However, pastels can be messy, staining your hands, cloths and drawing area,  and require fixatives to prevent smudging which can limit their portability.  Additionally, pastels dust can pose health concerns if inhaled. While it is ideal for expressive, colourful sketches, the medium's unique characteristics may not suit all preferences and environments, making it essential to consider the specific needs and constraints of the artist.

SKETCHBOOK-EXTRACT 26. (sharpie marker, simple landscape sketch).

Image
Simple landscape sketch Image: Landscape sketch. Simple landscape sketch with a sharpie marker. Using a sharpie marker for the above sketch offered bold, long-lasting lines and versatility in line weight. it enabled quick capture of the image drawn and had little resistant to smudging.  However, its lack of subtlety limits its suitability for nuanced shading and delicate details. The permanence of the sharpie ink leaves little room for correction, its tendency to bleed through paper restricts the use of both sides. While effective for bold, immediate sketches, it may not be ideal for more intricate or layered artwork and the choice to use a sharpie marker for sketching depends on the artist's specific needs and the desired characteristics of the final piece.
