CONTEXTUAL COLOUR PROJECT

Image
CONTEXTUAL COLOUR GUIDE This simple project explores how various colours in an image can be filtered out. To begin with any preferred picture or image is taken with a camera and uploaded into Photoshop. The image is imported and converted to a smart object in order to prevent any alterations in the quality of the picture when modifying its size. The filter icon on the upper horizontal panel in Photoshop is clicked, followed by pixelate  and crystallise and   then the cell size is adjusted to any degree depending on the resolution of the photo/image. The process is then exported and saved in jpeg/png/gif  format etc. The images below show the 3 stages of the process above. The first image is a picture taken with my phone camera at eye level(unedited) at my front porch. The  following edited pictures via photoshop pixelate icon show major colours that stand out.  NOTE: That similar processes was followed for the other edited images as seen below. Unedited pictur...

Studio drawing exercise

Image
This simple studio exercise is called the Overlay method, used as a method for exploring concept designs( transformations) ie spatial, materiality, form, depth, juxtaposition, perspective etc. The various stages are displayed above from left to right.   The first drawing made up of a circle within a rectangle serve as the boundary for our design concept. A tracing paper is then placed on top of the first sheet(with the circle within the rectangle) and a transformation is added. I’m this case, I added an additive transformation being a curvilinear path with concrete tiles for the pathway.  The third stage required using another tracing paper to draw a cross section of the concept drawing to scale in respect of a person placed within the drawing.  The final drawing required using a tracing paper to produce a perspective drawing of the whole scene from an observers point of view.

Project 4 (Transformation Project).

Image
Project 4 : This studio project required each student to choose/select 7 identical, 3D objects and apply 7 types of transformation to each object once. The various transformations being( Symmetry, Asymmetry, Subtraction , Addition, Distortion, Fragmentation and Abstraction. The  6 physical transformation of a cookie biscuit 🍪 is displayed below and the final one being an abstraction( cigarette stick).

Creative or not ???

Project 3( Scale Project)

Image
In the project 3 studio session, we were told to make 3 quick models. Then choose one of the models and take about 5 pictures to make 3 photo-montage images exploring scale as a context from micro to macro. Though it was a very quick exercise my chosen models inspiration was drawn from my home countries (Nigeria, southwest) rich cultural heritage. The white clad EYO masquerade regal, graceful, elegant and ethereal in its dance steps while also symbolising the spirits of the ancestors.   In order to make the photo-montage images some skills were required using Photoshop such as Quick masking, mask and cut, layer creation, cut and paste commands,  transformation commands such as rotate and scale. Below, are my photo-montages exploring scale from micro to macro. Micro scale photo-montage of a sculpture made into pen holder. Placed strategically on the conference table. Also, it is used functionally as a light bulb holder adding aesthetics to the metal beam above. Macro scale...

Project 2 ( Narrative project ).

Image
A Narrative project The picture below shows a Narrative about exploring Freedom…..the feather 🪶 symbolises flight, weightlessness and unrestricted movement , the Lottery ticket symbolises the freedom of expectation and of accepting outcomes, the Cigarette symbolises the freedom of choice and autonomy and the negative consequences of the choices we make, while the empty milk container gives us the ability to fill the container with whatever ideas we have without any constraints coupled with its rigid form…and lastly the plastic cover which symbolises containment, preservation and safeguarding ….the pictures are also showing the various colours and textures of objects within the same colour range selected on my walk home from the university...which is in a cyclical path ....an exploration into freedom of expression so to say….
