Studio drawing exercise

This simple studio exercise is called the Overlay method, used as a method for exploring concept designs( transformations) ie spatial, materiality, form, depth, juxtaposition, perspective etc. The various stages are displayed above from left to right.

The first drawing made up of a circle within a rectangle serve as the boundary for our design concept. A tracing paper is then placed on top of the first sheet(with the circle within the rectangle) and a transformation is added. I’m this case, I added an additive transformation being a curvilinear path with concrete tiles for the pathway.

The third stage required using another tracing paper to draw a cross section of the concept drawing to scale in respect of a person placed within the drawing.

The final drawing required using a tracing paper to produce a perspective drawing of the whole scene from an observers point of view.
