TRANSFORMATION EXERCISE.

A simple transformative drawing exercise

The images below represent a quick transformative task, which involved 4 stages or processes. The first drawing involved drawing a sphere with a rectangular boundary.

Secondly,  adding anything transformative such as pathways, walkway surface materials  etc.( in my case a curvilinear path with concrete block paving) and place a viewer within the drawing in whatever position desired.

Furthermore, a simple visualisation is drawn showing the position/scale of the viewer(me) relative to the viewed object(drawing).

Finally, a simple cross section with annotations describing all the objects within the drawing. This quick exercise lasted about 15mins. The exercise was a very insightful one and can be used in my opinion for quick presentations in the absence of computers. it also helped me in understanding scale in relation to the viewer and object.

A transformative project can be applied in so many ways in arts and design. I have a particular keen interest in the use of unique patterns for street art. As a designer the landscape as we know it shouldn't only be designed for function alone but to have an aesthetic appeal. One individual  whose work has fascinated me is Annie Albers who excelled greatly in textile and printmaking. Her experimentation with colour, scale, shape and rhythm with abstract, Crisscrossing geometric patterns.
