AN UNSUCCESSFUL CASE STUDY IN PUBLIC MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.

El-Gouna in Egypt, designed as a private resort town, faces challenges in fostering public mental health and well-being through biophilic design, particularly due to its limited integration of the 'Nature in the space Theory'.
Key elements like immersive greenery, dynamic water features, and shaded, restorative spaces are under represented. While El Gouna boasts a picturesque environment, it's reliance on artificial landscapes and a commercial focus overshadows opportunities to create genuine connections with nature.
Studies show that biophilic designs incorporating natural light, biodiversity, and interactive spaces reduce stress and promote well-being (Lahman, 2024;DesignHorizons,2024).
Visitors surveys indicate mixed responses; while some enjoy the aesthetics, others criticize its inability to offer tranquil, nature-based restorative experiences compared to more naturally immersive public parks.
For example, respondents report lower satisfaction with accessibility to unstructured green spaces or shaded areas for relaxation, which are central to biophilic principles(DesignHorizons,2024).
