Diagramming Skills Task 4.
DIGI-MAP AND PHOTOSHOP
Digi-map.
This quick skills task involves making a figure ground or Nolli-map. Firstly, log onto Digi-map > Ordinance survey > roam > enter the site location/postal code and zoom into the site > click on map content > un-click the icon show/hide all layers > click on the buildings and structures > make sure building and structure labels are off > click print once satisfied with what is displayed > print options: print scale(2500), valid print scale: 1:90 to 1: 12,000, print format: PDF, page size: A3, print layout: landscape > toggle between layout or content preview > click on generate print file > open the file in Acrobat to adjust if necessary.
Photoshop.
Open the image in Photoshop(file > open > select file in PDF format) > change the mode to RGB colour > once it is opened double click on the layer thumbnail and the layer style palette appears > click on colour overlay > click on the colour blend mode icon( the third tab from the left) which is used to set the colour of overlay. > colour picker palette > select various types of colours > save > export or save a copy as a jpeg.
This exercise was very useful as i had not realised Photoshop could be used to colour render whole maps. This is therefore a very important process in highlighting the various characters of a place by selecting specific parameters in Digi-map and colour overlaying it in Photoshop to describe unique characteristics visually.
